Hi Shane,
I apologize for not updating you sooner than this. I am hoping to send you pictures of Tessa soon....our camera is giving us a bit of a hard time. I can tell you that Tessa has settled in well in our home. She is a wonderful wonderful addition to our family. She is full of kisses and affection. Her favorite spot to be is anywhere that Ginger is. Ginger is our 1.5 year old shepherd mix. She and Tessa bonded immediately the day we went to pick Tessa up. They have been connected (usually at the mouth via a tug toy) ever since. They adore each other, and we couldn't be happier. We are so impressed with Tessa's temperament and manners. For such a young girl, she certainly is well behaved and pretty docile, although she loves to play when prompted to do so.
We found out early on that Tessa had weakened bladder muscles due to her spaying. So, she leaked a little when she was laying down. But, we have medication to help her with that, and the ONLY way she will take it is if I crush it up and put it in a tablespoon of ice cream! She is such a delicate eater that other ways to get her to take the pill wouldn't work....she would eat around whatever we hid it in and leave the pill. Such a clever girl!
Tess is such a joy. She has a constant smile and is eager to be with her people. She is always at someone's feet when in the house, and will promptly crawl into our lap if asked to. She is very affectionate and soaks up the affection we show her.
When Tessa first came home, we kenneled her at night for about a week, until she had adjusted to the house. Now, she is content to crawl under our bed and sleep for the night. She likes small enclosed places, which I suspect gives her a sense of security. She also had very erratic breathing that bordered on hyperventilation when she slept. As she has become more secure in her place in our family, that has gone away. She knows that she is safe and very much loved in our home.
I can't thank you enough for giving us this opportunity. Tessa couldn't be a more perfect addition to our lives. We are thrilled that she is a part of our family.
Take care, and I will get you pictures of our sweet girl soon! - Darcie
