Right now my house is full of pit bulls. Those of you that know me may not be surprised while those of you that know my husband may be thinking "poor Mike". Mike has a one foster dog limit. (We have four dogs of our own, three rescued horses, two rescued pot bellied pigs a rescued donkey an unspecified number of rescued barn cats and some chickens.) So one foster dog is a reasonable limit. For the past six weeks we have had three foster dogs. Mike has tried to address the my clear inability to count and I have been avoiding the conversations with him as much as I can... Tonight I was cornered. One kid is away for spring vacation, the other was sleeping everything was as quiet as it gets here with 8 dogs barking, playing, growling, knocking over furniture and whining for attention. And this is how it went:
Mike: "Shane we have three foster dogs."
Shane: "We do?"
Mike: "You know we do."
Shane: "One is really small."
Mike: "Three is too many."
Shane: "Adoptions are really slow, the economy......."
Mike: "Where are you going?"
Shane: "To check the rescue email."
Mike: "I thought we were going to talk about all these dogs."
Shane: "I can't right now I have to go find homes for them."
So now I am sitting in my office and I am trying to think of a new and exciting way to attract adopters to our foster dogs. I have tried Facebook, dropping them off with friends, trying to convince my friends they would hardly notice one more, networking and diligently returning email. To no avail... Dogder, Whitney and Jay have been in the rescue for almost two months and they need homes. So if any of you have any suggestions for new ways I might attract great adopters to these dogs that desperately need families PLEASE let me know. I am open to suggestions!
