Chloe

Chloe never made it to the petfinder site, when Chloe came to us we knew there was something different about her. It wasn't her expensive pedigree, it wasn't her smushed in face or the way she greets new men, but we could see it, rather hear it right away! It is hard to describe how loud Chloe's breathing was, oncoming trains, stampeding elephants and roaring jets come to mind. It was obvious she had some problems and she did not give us a lot of time to figure out what they were.

After a routine visit to Veremedy Chloe had a heat stroke, she stopped breathing, her tongue eyelids and toes were BLUE and she collapsed. We rushed her back to the vet where they hurried to bring her tempaerature down from 105 and get some oxygen in her. She survived! The next day I brought her to BEVS in Burlington for emergency surgery. Some bulldogs have flaps in their airway that open and close when they breathe and can obstruct breathing, others have narrow nostrils that can make breathing difficult especially on hot days and others have an elongated soft palate that can block air flow. Chloe of course had all three!

It was a quick recovery for Chloe and although we are still (paying for the surgery) wearing ear plugs at night beacuse of her snoring she is 100% recovered and she is heading off today to her new home! Chloe is being adopted by good friends of ours John and Katie. John and Katie lost their beloved bulldog Mojo a few weeks ago and while we know that Chloe will never replace Mojo we are positive that she is going to the best home a bulldog could ever have. (And we will see her all the time.)
