5 weeks ago I got a call from Hartford CT Animal Control about a litter of puppies without a mother. They were about 2 days old at the time and would certainly die in the kennel. I agreed we would take them (then consulted my husband) and sent out a quick plea for foster homes as I dashed out the door. My friends and foster homes responded, I could not believe how many people were willing to rearrange their schedules and their lives to bottle feed these babies every two hours. By the time I got back I had more foster homes than I had puppies.
The puppies were about 6 oz when we got them and we were advised by our vet that they would probably all die. It was a nerve racking first week as we watched their every move and were in constant contact with one another, checking in to see whose puppy was doing what. And then a puppy died. She passed in her sleep. It was a heartbreak we all felt for the puppy and for her foster family.

The remaining 6 puppies began to thrive, time flew by and their eyes opened, then ears, then they started to walk, and then run, soon we were feeding them solid food and at 5 weeks old they were ready to rejoin each other as litter mates in one foster home. Those of us that gave up our puppy so it could join it's sibling were filled with mixed emotions, happy that they survived and we got to watch them grow and sad because we miss them and over the last 5 weeks they have taken over our lives.

Thank you to all of you that fostered, supported the fosters and volunteered to foster these puppies. Without your individual commitment to caring for these puppies they would not have survived a third day.
We are now accepting applications for these babies and they will be ready to go to their forever homes on June 9.
