Goodbye Ruby Tuesday...

I think the night we met Ruby at the pound we knew that she was different, her tumors were visible and she was not feeling well. We knew it would cost us more money than we had in the rescue but we were not about to leave her behind. Even armed with what we already knew when the doctors told us she had cancer it was a horrible blow. I remember calling Sherry the ACO in Hartford crying after the appointment, promising Ruby we would do what we could for her but knowing it wasn't much.

Ruby had her mammary tumors removed and was spayed. The doctors told us she would live another 6 months and all we could do was keep her comfortable. We knew we could not adopt her out so she went to live with Brooke and spend her final days being pampered and lavished with attention.

I will always remember the way Ruby greeted us at the door, jumping straight up off the ground and squealing, the way she leaned and snuggled in for attention if we sat down in the living room, but mostly I will think of Ruby lying on her back in the sunshine, happy, content and enjoying her life.

Today, 19 months and 2 miracles later Ruby is cancer free and she has been adopted.

So with great hope for her future, gratitude for her adopters and tears in our eyes we watched Ruby drive away with her new family tonight. Good luck Rubescoobalooba and keep in touch.
